How to Apply to SHURP

Apply through the Leadership Alliance. There are two Harvard programs, make sure to select "Medical Sciences." For more information about the Leadership Alliance, including the application process click here.

Application Requirements

  1. A strong, succinct, and clearly structured statement of purpose explaining your career goals, research interests, research experience, and why you want to participate in SHURP (refer to the Leadership Alliance SR-EIP application for details)
  2. Two strong letters of recommendation that discuss your work in the lab and/or in the classroom (we recommend prioritizing letters from faculty in whose labs you have conducted research)
  3. A demonstrated commitment to scientific research, as shown by coursework, research, and recommendations
  4. Unofficial transcript(s) in PDF format

Important Dates

Applications for SHURP 2026 will open on November 1st.

*Due to the academic schedule of students on the quarter system, dates may be modified for these students.

If you select "Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences," we will not receive your application and we will be unable to review your application.
